Classic Rock?

So I was reading the new Rolling Stone this morning (another on the HUGE list of magazines I read) and they had this article about young America’s obsession with classic rock. It is very interesting how teens are turning to the greats of the past. The trend is extremely apparent in my school by the Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin T-shirts flooding the hallways. Do I support this? Well yes and no. I respect all music. I play a few instruments and know a lot of kids who play or sing and I know how hard it is to create any music at all. I am open to any type of music, and am made fun of by my brother (a classics fan) constantly because of my fondness of all genres (some more than others though). When it comes to classic rock I am a little undecided. I mean I have MAJOR respect to the artists or anyone for that matter who plays the guitar. It is a really hard instrument to play (I have tried... and failed) especially if you rock as hard as Jimi Hendrix, Guitar Legend! But when it comes to the sound of the music I am not as enthused as some. A few songs here and there I really like (Harder rock like, Jimi Hendrix-Fire, Pink Floyd-Young Lust, then folksier rock like some Neil Young and The Band etc.). Stuff like that is really what I consider classic rock. I think just because it isn't called classic rock it doesn't mean it isn't classic, if you get what I am saying. Some of my favorite older bands like the Beatles, The Clash, Ramones, The Cure, Nirvana etc., I really don't consider classic rock... maybe the Beatles but still... I don't think they belong in the same category as Jimi Hendrix. Sure they are all extremely CLASSIC bands that will never be un-popular but they don't belong together. So to answer my own question... I enjoy my kinda classic rather than my brothers.

Oh, is it just me or is the boy who ONLY likes Classic rock thing getting old...respect the classics by supporting the new comers who where influenced by your fav classic.

Spring Trends

I accept the place that trends have in fashion. They keep it fun and interesting so we don't get completely bored, Right? Even though I find it wrong to indulge fully in the latest trends it is good to mix a few into an otherwise classic wardrobe. Most trends I agree with but everyone in a while there is one that leaves me puzzled. The latest trend that has even (gasp!) spread to my not-so-fashion-forward school just drives me crazy. Leggings. I know I know.... THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!!! But come on, are all the amazing fashion icons of the world SOOO out of game that they are already turning to this 80's trend? America just started to forgive themselves for the MANY fashion mistakes of the 80's (big hair, off the shoulder sweatshirts, leg warmers etc.) do we really need to re-introduce this trend so early in the cycle? Maybe it is just me and my crazy mind but I would LOVE to stick to tights! Cure your leggings fix with a cute opaque pair extending ALL THE WAY to the toes! My conclusion: Black tights are HOT; Black Leggings are NOT! Thank you very much!!!

Now for some trends I actually support....

Sneakers with Dresses and Skirts- FINALLY my favorite combo ever is now supported in New York Fashion Week! Ever since Mischa Barton's Ked Campaign started we have all had sneakers on the brain. Though I have always favored the slightly punky Converse All-Star.... Ked's cute but simple designs look gorgeous with dresses and skirts alike! If you try this trend and some snob tells you that you are not allowed to wear sneakers with skirts, send them to me.... I will put 'em in their place!

Lace- Pretty, frilly, girly and gorgeously Victorian. Lace is to die for, makes even the biggest tom boys feel like radiant damsels in distress! The more vintage the better... because the older it is... the cooler it is, that’s how I roll!

Vests- Ahh, men’s wear is crossing over into women’s and I am living every minute of it. Take a tip from the beautiful Sienna Miller and wear these babies over everything. POW... instant figure! ? It is like a less slutty corset. My favorite with colorful T-Shirts and Jewelry.

Tulip skirts- I LOVE this shape. I honestly had never really seen anything like this until recently. It is so lady like with the beautiful gathering at the top... aww I can't stop gushing about them.... I NEED one! I'm thinking in Red but who knows.

Bold Jewelry- There is a fine line between bold and tacky. Though I love this trend it can come off wrong if not used correctly. Just pick pieces that are original and mix them up!! Just don't allow you outfit to over power the jewelry, unless you want that... then you should go with a simpler style.

Obsessions

So I should be doing my homework but homework is boring so I am going to do this instead. Welcome to my life of procrastination. So my two new obsessions....These cute rhinestone trimmed fake Tortoise shell sun glasses I bought at H&M and the band "The Fray". The glasses are so cute and glamorously over the top. I wore them around Boston this weekend while walking around and I felt like a movie star with diamond encrusted sunglasses. They will be my new best friend this summer or now... same diff. The Fray on the other hand is so cool. I bought this CD on a whim... I had a 10$ Best Buy gift card and their CD was on sale for $9.99. I had downloaded their free song, Over My Head (Cable Car) on Itunes and liked it a while back, so I bought it. Good decision!! (For once) I love their sound. They have a piano... which I am a big fan of.... bands with pianos I mean not the interment..... Which I am still a big fan of. It makes them sound more delicate a guess. But they still have guitars (not another Keane on our hands). The only thing thin common with Keane is that they are one of VH1's artists to watch... also they might be British (another thing I am a fan of... British guys!!) But I am not sure. You can't tell by some ones singing voice whether they are British or not.... I always found that funny. The lead singers voice is still really good... he has a great range... not like most rockers who kinda stay on the same level. His voice is smooth not scratchy. I love it. I wanted to pick a song to tell you that I liked the best but I couldn't pick one... their single is Over My Head though so download that one!!! Also VH1.com might have some free stuff for listening.

So I was reading my new Elle Girl Magazine I got in the mail today... yeah I am obsessed with Fashion Magazines if you haven't found out. So I was reading this article on Prom Dresses and they said... and I quote "There are only a few occasions in your life when you always remember what you wore: Prom, Your Wedding, Getting your first Oscar etc." of course by Oscar they meant the award movie stars receive but guess what I thought they meant when I first read this (something only I, or an other fashion obsessed person would think of) When you get you First Oscar De La Renta. I have a problem. I must go now and do some homework... I need to force my brain with Algebra, Chemistry and Economics to knock some since into me

New Direction

Okay so i havn't written any thing in a while because i admit i got a little bored... and creeped out about a live journal kinda thing so i am going to turn over to what i really wanted this blog to be about from the beginning... my two loves... Fashion and Music. They are my world and i could talk on and on about the two.

Today at school i wore a cami style tank top (Lt Blue) over a tshirt (blue green) with a cute black leather belt around the middle. All this with black jeans and my black and pink converses. I had just gotten my Lucky Magazine in the mail and the high belt over shirt thing is everywhere and i thought it looked really cute plus i have a whole draw full of really cool vintage belts that i never know what to do with. So i gave it a try and i really liked the way it looked... the belt, (which was thick and i wore it right above my belly button) was extreamly slimming on me. So i wore it to school. I guess the rest of my school doesn't read Lucky!! I got a bunches of looks (Which i don't mind... i actually get a secret high from people checking out my outfit... it makes me more confident that it caught their eye, either in a good or bad way. I love it even more when they try to copy it!!) Two girls (seperatly) told me it was intresting...meaning they didn't like it. One of the girls i am not really friends with and if i wasn't such a nice kid i could have snaped at her. she was wearing an Aeropostle sweatshirt, jeans and Phat Farm shoes... wow she is really original (it is hard to type sarcasim)!! Don't critisize fashion risks if you are two afraid to take one yourself
